How soon will the Auditor issue the surplus funds after the owner has completed the forms?
The surplus funds will be issued usually within 24 hours.

Who can claim tax sale surplus?
Only the owner whose property was sold in tax sale can claim the surplus. Anyone other than the owner has to petition the court to claim surplus. Even if a person has a power of attorney for the owner, he still has to petition the court.

When can the owner claim for the tax sale surplus?
Surplus funds are not available until a tax deed has been issued by the court.

How can the owner file a claim for the tax sale surplus?
The owner needs to come to the Hamilton County Auditor's Tax Sale Department to file a claim for the surplus. He has to show 2 types of photo identification and submit to finger printing for security reasons. When there, he will complete a claim form, a W-9 form and an indemnifying agreement. An advance copy of the W-9 is available
online (PDF).
