Sometimes, we just don’t know where to start! Join one of our naturalists to learn the very basics and equip you on your outdoor journey. We will help you understand the tools and vocabulary necessary to take your first steps in a judgement free environment!

Pre-registration: Required. Register online.
Navigation: Holiday Map and Compass
Come and learn about the basics of compass use and navigation. Then you and your family will take these new skills on the trail to complete a Christmas/Holiday themed orienteering challenge around the park. Families with younger students (fifth grade and younger) can register as a family to complete the orienteering challenge, but the younger participants may struggle with the actual compass work.

Winter Tree Identifiication
Tree identification can be difficult, no matter what season! In the winter, after all the leaves have fallen, it can be even more trickier. Come join our naturalist on a hike to take your first steps in tree identification and learn some of the terminology to help make those guidebooks a bit more understandable for you and your family.
