Regular Meetings


Pursuant to IC 5-14-1.5-5(c) the Hamilton County Council will meet on the following dates in 2019. All meetings are held at 7 p.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom in the Hamilton County Government and Judicial Center. Meeting dates and times are subject to change. View the County Council calendar for more information on scheduled meeting and times.

The deadline to be placed on the Council Agenda is 12 p.m. on the Wednesday before the Council Meeting. To be placed on the agenda or for deadline requests, contact Dawn Coverdale at 317-776-8402.

Purpose
The Council is the financial power of the county, serving as a check on the Board of County Commissioners. The Council duties are to:
  • Adopt annual budgets
  • Fix salaries
  • Fix the county tax rate
  • Furnish financial assistance to any community center for the mentally handicapped located in the county
  • Incur county indebtedness
  • Levy taxes to provide funds for constructing,
  • Make appropriations, re-appropriates and transfers of funds
  • Repair and remodel jails
